Healthy Eating Tips for The New Year

We're just days away from 2018 and we know what you're thinking...where did the year go?

As we remember all the wonderful memories and valuable lessons we learned in 2017, we look forward to starting fresh and new. What better way to do that than to focus on our health so we can fully enjoy all that the new year has in store for us.

We believe in creating goals and although it can be hard to see, all of our small victories add up! Here are some simple and attainable goals to help set yourself up to victory.

1. Drink more water. It's the easiest thing to do and you'll be so glad you did. The general recommendation is 8 glasses of water per day, but there's no reason why it can't be fun - drop in some fresh berries, sliced citrus fruit, or mint leaves to add a hint of flavor and some nutrients, too. Need some motivation? Just like buying a new workout ensemble gets people to the gym, a new reusable water bottle might do the trick for you (we love the unique designs at Swell).

2. Eat more veggies. Incorporating vegetables into every meal is not as hard as it sounds. Whether you add a handful of spinach to your morning smoothie, fill up your sandwich with extra lettuce, or give yourself a larger portion of roasted vegetables during dinner, you will reap all the benefits of extra vitamins, nutrients and fiber without adding empty calories to your meals.

3. Increase your fiber. We’re not talking about Metamucil here. You can increase your fiber intake by simply substituting ingredients. Instead of white rice, try brown rice or quinoa, which are also packed with protein. If you can’t live without bread, try switching out your sourdough with whole wheat. And for pasta lovers, there are so many delicious options for you, like edamame noodles which have three times more fiber and protein than their traditional noodle counterpart (and cook so much faster!).

P.S. The new year is right around the corner – what nutrition goals will you set for yourself?
