Pumpkin Spice Latte: The Epitome of Fall Beverages

You know it’s fall when your wardrobe shifts from flip flops to boots, tank tops to sweaters. Another telltale sign the season has changed: pumpkin spice lattes. But did you know that the popular PSL at some U.S. chain coffee shops isn’t vegan?

Fret not! You, too, can indulge in the sweet caffeinated concoction! We found a great recipe from PETA that is easy to make for yourself and can easily be multiplied to make enough for a crowd (did someone say spiked lattes?).

Even better, you can customize the recipe in so many ways. Using the milk and creamer of your choice, you can create a drink that fits your preferences. You can also sub out the agave nectar with a sweetener of your choice.

Vegan Pumpkin Spice Latte



  • 1 1/2 cups nondairy milk

  • 2 Tbsp. nondairy creamer

  • 2 Tbsp. canned pumpkin

  • 1 Tbsp. agave nectar

  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice, plus more for garnish

  • Instant coffee granules equivalent to 1 serving size

  • Cinnamon, for garnish

  • Nutmeg, for garnish


In a saucepan, stir together the nondairy milk, creamer, and canned pumpkin and warm over medium heat until the mixture begins to steam.

Reduce the heat and bring to a simmer. Whisk in the agave nectar, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, and instant coffee.

Pour into a mug and garnish with the pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Makes 1 pumpkin spice latte
