New Year's Resolutions

The new year offers a fresh start - whether you have made a personal commitment to improve your physical health, mental well-being, or any other facet of your life, we have some great tips to help you reach your resolution goals.

  1. Write it down. By writing down your resolutions, you make them a tangible object. From here, you can define how you plan on achieving each goal and track your progress. Make sure you share your list with family, friends and support groups to help you stay accountable.

  2. Set small goals. Is running a marathon on your list of things to do this year? Even if it’s not, you wouldn’t expect yourself to run 26.2 miles without training - the same can be said about any large goal you set for yourself. By setting small, attainable goals, you’ll be more likely to reach your big goal and stay motivated throughout the year.

  3. Celebrate every success. Why wait until the end of the year to celebrate? Each milestone you reach in your journey is a reason to celebrate - treat yourself to a relaxing massage or your favorite dessert!

  4. Be kind to yourself. If you have one bad week (or even one bad month), don’t beat yourself up. The beauty of each day is that you have another chance to start over. Get yourself back on track and start again!

Need help selecting a resolution? Here are some of our favorites!

  1. Read more. Are you #teambook or #teamkindle? No matter what format you prefer, reading is a great way to educate and entertain yourself. First step: select a book and challenge yourself to read one chapter each week.

  2. Drink more water. Water makes up 60% of our body and is a key ingredient to keep our bodies functioning at optimum levels. If drinking water is a challenge for you, try jazzing up your water with slices of fresh fruit and herbs (click here for some infused water suggestions). This hint of flavor will make drinking water more enjoyable.

  3. Be thankful. Each day presents many things for which to be thankful. One way to reflect on this is to write it down in a daily journal. Even one sentence each day will help shift your mindset and allow more positive thoughts in.

  4. Practice self-care. Our daily lives can feel overwhelming - allow yourself to take a break when you need one. If you don’t have time to soak in the tub, you can create a relaxing atmosphere in your daily shower - just splash a few drops of your favorite essential oil against your shower wall and let the steam create your own aromatherapy treatment.

  5. Be nice. Small acts of kindness can change someone’s day in an instant. Try doing one nice thing for someone each day (and don’t forget to do something nice for yourself, too). When you’re ready to make this a larger project, try volunteering with a local charity to help those in need.

  6. Eat more veggies. Veggies are our jam, but if you’re not plant-based, why not try eating meatless for one day a week? By cutting just one-third of the meat from our diets, we can each save as much as 340,667 gallons of water, more than 4,000 square feet of land, and the greenhouse gas equivalent of driving 2,700 fewer miles a year.
