April showers bring May flowers, but they also bring some delicious produce. One way to incorporate seasonal produce into your daily routine is to create infused water. By infusing water with fruits, vegetables, and herbs, you not only add a hint of flavor to your water, but you also benefit from the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are found in these ingredients.
Infused water is so easy to make - just slice up some of your favorite fruits or vegetables, muddle them with some herbs or spices, and add them to a pitcher of still or sparkling water. Some of our favorite combinations are:
Grapefruit + Cucumber + Rosemary
Raspberries + Strawberries + Mint
Apples + Cinnamon
Water is an essential component to our health - by staying properly hydrated, water is able to:
Get rid of wastes through urination, perspiration and bowel movements
Keep your temperature normal
Lubricate and cushion joints
Protect sensitive tissues
Help maintain energy level
The common recommendation is to drink eight glasses of water per day, but every body is different - some need more and some need less. The general rule of thumb is to replace any fluid you might lose through exercise or heat, and to drink water before you become thirsty. It’s also important to remember that many fruits and vegetables contain a substantial amount of water, which count toward your daily total.
