For the second year in a row, we had the pleasure of catering the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters’ annual Smith Weiss Environmental Champions Awards event. Held at the beautiful LA River Center and Gardens, this year’s event honored Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian and City of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Barbara Romero with the Smith-Weiss Environmental Champion Awards, as well as STAND – L.A. with the Smith-Weiss Community Activist Award In honor of Dorothy Green and Wendy James with the Moe Stavnezer Lifetime Achievement Award. Attendees included Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
As the only environmental Political Action Committee in Los Angeles County, LALCV’s mission is to endorse and support candidates in Los Angeles County and its 88 cities for Mayor, City Council, and County Supervisor who exhibit a knowledge of, and commitment to, preserving and protecting the environment. LALCV also endorses and supports environmental ballot initiatives. We always enjoy meeting our community leaders and candidates who make our environment a top priority.
Since plant-based food is known for having a lower carbon footprint than conventional meals, our menu was a perfect fit for this event. Chef Hope created a delicious menu featuring global flavors and comfort foods, that guests devoured. Items included Vietnamese-style rice noodles, a chilled gazpacho soup sip and smoked baby carrots in a blanket. We also had a selection of desserts, including fudgy brownies, peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and red velvet cupcakes.
To make sure the event was as eco-friendly as possible, ZeroWaste Co. provided dinnerware for the buffet, glassware for the bar, as well as recycling, composting and food donation services. Sofia is always great to work with and we highly recommend incorporating her services into every event - she has a wonderful selection of china and glassware to rent and is so knowledgeable when it comes to the best types of disposables to use for events.
